UPSC: Union Public Service Commission

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission. UPSC is India’s central recruiting agency which is responsible for recruiting candidates for the All India Services, Central Services and Cadres, as well as the Armed Forces of the Union of India.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was established on 1, October, 1926. 

The recruitment process requires examination for each post. These exams are also known as Civil Service Examinations(CSE), whereas these are only one kind of exam conducted by UPSC.

UPSC Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must be a citizen of India
  • The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years (for the General category candidate) on 1 August of the year of examination
  • For Other Backward Castes (OBC) the upper age limit is 35 years.
  • For Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), the limit is 37 years
  • A graduation degree from a Central, State or a Deemed university
