What is the full form of UGC

UGC: University Grants Commission

UGC stands for University Grants Commission. The main aimrole of UGC in higher education is to provide funds to universities and coordinate, determine & maintain the ethics in institutions of higher education.

It is an initiative of the Indian Union Government in accordance with the UGC act 1956. Under the Ministry of Human Resources Development and affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education.

History

The UGC was first formed in 1945 to oversee the work of the three Central Universities of Aligarh, Banaras and Delhi. Its responsibility was extended in 1947 to cover all Indian universities.
