SHO: Station House Officer

SHO stands for Station House Officer. SHO is an officer in charge of the police station.

He supervises the functioning of police station and is responsible for maintaining the law and order in his area.

SHO is authorized to receive complaints and to register criminal cases. The rank insignia for an SHO is three stars and a red and blue striped ribbon at the outer edge of the shoulder straps. His ranking is above a Sub-Inspector (SI) and below a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Duties of SHO

He oversees the activities of the police station and is responsible for the preservation of law and order in his area.
Supervision and Personal administration of every one of his subordinates of the government assistance and Discipline.
Arranging Beats and Patrols in his Jurisdiction
to protect internal security, to prevent and control terrorist activities, breaches
of communal harmony, militant activities and other situations affecting
Internal Security;
Keep up powerful surveillance on Anti-Social Elements and Bad characters and keep illuminating to senior authorities.
