RSVP stands Repondez s’il vous plait which means in french, “please respond”.

It is often written at the end of an invitation card or sent as a RSVP card along with an invitation card that a person sends to invite guests to attend the event such as marriage ceremony, birthday party, inauguration of a business or any other event.

RSVP is used to indicate that a response to an invitation is required or expressly requested. Usually it is used by the host to have an idea of the number of people attending the occasion. In some cases used for those who are treated with preference.
