Police: Public Officer for Legal Investigations and Criminal Emergencies.

Police stands for Public Officer for Legal Investigations and Criminal Emergencies. The police are a constituted body of persons empowered by a state, with the aim to enforce the law, to ensure the safety, health and possessions of citizens, and to prevent crime and civil disorder.

In India, every area has a police station whose in charge is the Station House Officer. It is a government job. Every police station consists of Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors and Constables.
