What is the full form of MLA
MLA: Member of Legislative Assembly
MLA stands for Member of Legislative Assembly. MLA is a representative of the Lok Sabha. MLA elected by the voters of a district in the constituency to the legislature of State government.
From every constituency of a district , people elect one representative. Who then becomes an MLA .
Being an MLA he can be a cabinet minister and CM also.
Criteria for becoming MLA
- Person must be a hold a citizenship of India.
- Age limit is greater than 25 years
- He must be a voter of any constituency of the State.
- The person should not be mentally ill or abnormal.
- He or She must not hold any office of profit under the Government of India or the Government of any state other than that of a Minister for the Indian Union.
Responsibilities of an MLA
- He should raise the local issues of his constituency in front of state government
- He will allow the best use of LAD (Local area development) budget to improve his electorate
- He will use the many legislative instruments for the good of his local constituency people
- MLAs also serve as Members of various committees. Committee membership is allocated to the political parties in approximately the same proportion as their representation in the House.
- Every MLA may open an office in his or her constituency.
