Microsoft has already been collaborating with Accenture on the development of Mesh-enabled immersive environments. New employees are instructed on how to build a digital avatar and access One Accenture Park during a meeting on Teams.

Facebook:— Millions of Oculus VR headgear devices for accessing the metaverse have already been sold by the social media behemoth. Horizon Worlds, a virtual reality place that users may explore as an avatar, as well as tools for developers to create more virtual worlds, were also released by Facebook.

Epic Games:— Following a $1 billion round of fundraising in 2021, Epic Games, creators of the blockbuster online shooter game series Fortnite — which has 350 million users — and the Unreal. Game engine software is targeted at establishing a foothold in the metaverse.

Sony Group Corp. contributed $200 million. Epic Games’ concept of the metaverse varies from Facebook’s in that it aims to create a social environment where users may connect and companies without being bombarded with advertisements in their news feed.

In a statement, Kenichiro Yoshida, chairperson, president, and CEO of Sony Group Corp., stated, “I strongly feel that this corresponds with our objective to fill the world with emotion via the force of creativity and technology.”

Is it true that there is only one metaverse?

In a perfect world, there is only one Metaverse. There is intended to be just one, regardless of how many firms are engaged or what they are called. After all, it’s a collection of virtual worlds or habitats linked by an open concept that allows for smooth asset transfer and mobility.

It may be seen as a collection of islands, with each island representing a virtual environment. One island, for example, may represent Facebook’s virtual world, while another could represent Epic Games’ virtual world, and so on.

The Metaverse refers to all of the islands together, whereas the individual islands are referred to as “virtual world” or “virtual environment” or the term provided by the firm that controls them.

The aim of the collaborative virtual worlds, however, vanishes once capitalism emerges. Epic or Apple will not want to share their worlds with Facebook, and Facebook will not want to share its worlds with Epic or Apple. These commercial verses may be described as just facsimiles of the concept.

While the concept of being able to participate in a virtual online environment has been for a long time, a full metaverse with lifelike interactions is still years away.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates highlighted in his annual year in a review blog post that most individuals lack the VR goggles and motion capture gloves needed to effectively record their emotion, body language, and voice quality.

However, Gates thinks that most virtual meetings will migrate from two-dimensional square boxes to the metaverse — a three-dimensional arena in which participants appear as digital avatars — in the next two to three years.
