KGF: Kolar Gold Fields

KGF stands for Kolar Gold Fields. It is a gold mining region in K.G.F. taluk (township), Kolar district, Karnataka, India. K.G.F. is about 30 kilometres from Kolar, 29 kilometres from Kuppam and 100 kilometres from Bangalore.

It was one of the major gold mines in India, which was closed in 2001 due to increased production costs, reducing deposits and low gold production.

For over a century, the town has been known for gold mining. One of India’s first power-generation units was built in 1889 to support mining operations.
