JCO: Junior Commissioned Officer

JCO stands for Junior Commissioned Officer. This term describing a group of military ranks found in the Indian Army, Pakistan Army, Bangladesh Army and Nepal Army. Those soldiers holding JCO rank receive a commission from the President with commanding power.

It is higher than havadars and lower than lieutenants. Senior havaldars are promoted to JCO rank on the basis of merit and seniority, restricted by the number of vacancies

It was founded in 1952 by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt as Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). Since it was established its name was changed several times over the years, from World Wide Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Federation (WWF) to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

History

In the British Indian Army during the British Raj, JCOs were known as Viceroy’s Commissioned Officers (VCOs) except in Nepal, which was never a British colony. Under the British, there was a clear colonial context, with the VCOs being the highest ranks that an Indian could attain while the full commissioned officers were British – a distinction which disappeared with Indian independence
