What is the full form of IPS
IPS: Indian Police Service
IPS stands for Indian Police Service. IPS is one of the three All India Services of Government of India.
It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became independent from the United Kingdom.
The IPS officers are recruited through the exam of Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC). This exam is conducted every year and the selected candidates choose their preferences from the top three services IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Forest Service) and IPS (Indian Police Service).
The IPS service is divided into different departments like Crime Branch, Home Guards, Traffic Bureau and Criminal Investigation Department (CID)
IPS Eligibility
- Nationality – Must be an Indian citizen
- Age Limit – Minimum age of 21 years, maximum age varies, depending on category and benchmark physical disability
- Minimum Educational Qualification – University degree (Graduate) from a recognised University
- Number of Attempts – 6 attempts for General category (More for other categories)
- Restriction on Applying – Officers already appointed to the IAS or IFS aren’t eligible
