What is the full form of FSSAI
FSSAI: Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
The Food authority regulates and checks for safe food manufacture, storage and handling practices of Food Business Operators(FBOs). FSSAI checks for compliance and that FBOs are following the regulations and standards as mentioned in the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.
The Primary Aim of FSSAI Standards:
- The laying down of the standard norms for food articles on a scientific basis.
- To maintain and regulate the manufacture, storage, sale, distribution, and import of food in the most optimal manner that operates within the framework of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006.
- Ensure and facilitate the quality and safety of the food distributed to the masses and the public by culinary establishments.
- Conduct training programs to train the people who are in food businesses or want to start a food business.
- Assist in the development of international technical standards for food, sanitary etc.
