What is the full form of DRDO

DRDO: Defence Research and Development Organization

DRDO stands for Defence Research and Development Organization. DRDO is India’s largest research organisation, charged with the military’s research and development. It is under the Department of Defence Research and Development in Ministry of Defence of the Government of India.

It is headquartered in Delhi, India. It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production of the Indian Ordnance Factories with the Defence Science Organisation.

DRDO focuses on enhancing self-reliance in Defence Systems and dedicatedly working towards design & development leading to production of world class weapon systems and equipment in accordance with the quantitative and qualitative requirements laid down by the three services viz. 

Currently, the Organisation is backed by more than 5000 scientists and about 25,000 technical, other scientific and supporting personnel.

Several major projects for the development of armaments, light combat aircrafts, missiles, radars, electronic warfare systems etc are on hand and significant achievements have already been made in several such technologies.
