ADIDAS: Adolf "Adi" Dassler
ADIDAS stands for Adolf “Adi” Dassler who is the founder of ADIDAS. It is a German multinational company which customizes and manufactures quality shoes, sports apparels, and other sports equipment and accessories.
It is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe, and the second largest in the world. The brand Adidas owns Reebok, Taylor Made and Rockport.
History
- In 1920 at the age of 20, Adolf Dassler made his first original shoe.
- In 1928, he prepared unique shoes in his business unit for the athletes who participated in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.
- In the middle of the 1930s, he prepared 30 different shoes for eleven different sports with staff and workers of around 100 employees.
- In 1947, he started with 47 workers and completed first original post-war sports shoes using canvas and rubber from the American fuel tanks.
- In 1948, he launched the brand ADIDAS as the name of his corporation. The name of the corporation ADIDAS was a combination of his first and last name.
- In 1949, he officially listed the three-stripe mark as the trademark of Adidas.
- After the enormous accomplishment, in 1995, the corporation enters publically with its stock.
- In 1997, Adidas AG acquired the Salomon Group who specialized in ski wear, and its official corporate name was changed to Adidas-Salomon AG.
- In August 2015, Adidas acquired fitness technology firm Runtastic for approximately $240 million
- In May, 2017 Adidas sold TaylorMade golf company (including Ashworth) to KPS Capital Partners for $425 million.
