AD: Anno Domini
AD stands for Anno Domini. It is a Medieval Latin term which means “in the year of our lord”. This term is used to represent the year after the Christians God Jesus Christ.
In English, it is common for “A.D.” to precede the year, so that the translation of “A.D. 2014” would read “in the year of our lord 2014.”
The Anno Domini dating system was devised in 525 by Dionysius Exiguus to enumerate the years in his Easter table. His system was to replace the Diocletian era that had been used in an old Easter table because he did not wish to continue the memory of a tyrant who persecuted Christians.
500 BC means 500 years before Jesus was born And, 3000 AD means around 3000 years after Jesus was born.
