Valentine’s Day occurs every February 14 across the world. Flowers, chocolates, gifts, poems, and cards are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is mysterious St. Valentine? There’s a true-life story. It’s a story that teaches us a lot about love, sacrifice, and commitment the true meaning of Valentine’s Day.
In truth, the exact origins and identity of St. Valentine are unclear. But in one of the story:
History Of Valentine's Day
In the third century, the Roman Empire was dominated by Emperor Claudius II – Gothicus. He was nicknamed ‘Claudius – the Cruel’ as a result of his harsh leadership and his tendency for entering into wars and abusing his people. In fact, he was entering into numerous wars throughout the third century that he was having a tough time recruiting enough soldiers in this army.
Claudius believed that recruitment for the military was down as Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives or families behind, To get rid of the problem. he canceled all marriages and engagements in Rome. Thousands of couples saw their hopes of matrimony broken by the one act of a tyrant. And nobody appeared intrested about standing up to the emperor.
But a simple Christian priest named Valentine did move and stood up for love. He realizing the injustice of the decree, He began to secretly marry soldiers before they went off to war, despite the emperor’s orders. In 269 A.D., Emperor Claudius discerned regarding the secret ceremonies and he had Valentine thrown into jail and deemed that he would be place to death.
As Valentine was awaiting execution, he fell in love with a blind girl who was jailer’s daughter. On the eve of his execution, with no writing instruments out there, he wrote the jailer’s daughter a letter in ink that he squeezed from violets signed “From Your Valentine” as a farewell before his execution. Legend has it that his words created the blind lady see once more.
It absolutely was a short romance as a result of following day Valentine was clubbed to death by Roman executioners.
